Prepare Your First Presentation

Presentation gets its power and effect from the proposal and graduation project team presentation skills.

You should have written an amazingly simple proposal, that directly delivers the problem you will solve; the issue you will handle, your proposed solution, and what you will do.

If you have not written a very well proposal, take your time, consult your colleges, ask your supervisor for guidance.

Presentation is the publicly seen part of the proposal. You need to prepare a simple straight clear presentation. MAQ presentation is also sophisticated as was the proposal. There have been two notes regarding this presentation:
It is too long, it holds lots of theory, search results paragraphs, it did not hit the problem and present the solution immediately as it should. The first 22 slides were talking about the e-Learning, M-Learning, Framework, Architecture, and SOA.
They started talking about MAQ in the slide 23 of 29, when they shall have started doing so in the third slide.
This template is really an old one, it has been popular two centuries ago. Who the black color in presentations anyway ?

Visual Control of Business Processes presentation is one of the presentations I like, because it is simple, satisfies almost all presentations requirements. But, I believe it is still missing, the Richness maybe.

Richness; from my point of view, refers to the knowledge the presentation adds to audience.

Presentation needs to be Active, Reactive, Proactive, Interactive, so it becomes Attractive.

Active Presentation: is the presentation where it presents / consumes dynamic content. This content can be Video, GIF, or animation. Audience can get bored of static presentations. At least try to have something moving in your slides [i].
Reactive Presentation: Enriching the presentation by preparing a real rich interface one is important. You might provide the presentation the capabilities of reactivity towards user actions; via presenting heavy mouse over moves and that stuff. But remember, to make it in serve of the presentation; not just to do it.

Proactive Presentation: Presentation shall push audience towards the required outputs. It is not accepted to give the control to audience to determine the path of the presentation, instead, presentation shall invoke environmental stimuli around audience to deliver them where the presenter wants.
Interactive Presentation: Presentation might need to cooperate and integrate with external resources. You can prepare a Media Player List of the Videos you tend to view them. You can prepare a List of Internet sites to be opened during the presentation.
Your presentation becomes Attractive once you enrich it. It is really important to take your time; there is on standard time for making the presentation. Take whatever time it takes. You must feel the presentation, you need to feel you will rock the world the day of your presentation. You are not showing the work; asking others what they think about it, You are showing them what you have done. Get ready to fight; if fight is what it takes to make them feel the effort and pain you have been through.

Most students feel that they have to make presentation, so they make it. None of them feels the importance of the presentation. They can finialize the graduation project with only presenting one presentation, but this is not a recommended practice. I love to have the chance to show my progress; atleast weekly, and I love to do with others what I love to be done with me. Besides, presentation skills can only be enhanced via weekly presentations.

Define your goals before going through the presentation. You are a student in the final year in the Faculty, want to convince this supervisor that:

• You have Picked up a Topic
• This Topic is Important
• It can be New
• You are serious regarding this Topic, you are so excited
• You are about to get a real achievement, you are producing a real life solution
• You have done the required Survey
• You met people before who thought about implementing that project, or thought about it
• You have seen what others have done regarding this point
• You have determined the exact specific innovative part you will add

Now, you need to have a presentation that reflects all that. Digital Library Presentation does not include any of the Attractive features we discussed less than two minutes ago, but still satisfies all the presentation success requirements. It is Simple, hits the point, and to some extent; attractive because it uses a newly presented template at Microsoft Office 2007.

The amazing thing about Digital Library Presentation is: Simplicity. I felt what they wanted to say, I loved what they said (I have been there), and it is really amazing what students can get when they start their own work. Graduation Project is not about acting, it is about doing, doing it yourself. You do not have to be the best student in the Faculty with the amazing communication skills to have a wonderful presentation. Search deep inside you, if you believe in what you are doing, you will get to the target. What really matters is: You have to believe it.

[i] Never think I am encouraging you to use the in and out effects available in the Microsoft PowerPoint. There is no way for any presentation that holds my name as a supervisor to be like that. I am talking about dynamic content of the slides, your explanation to some problem. For example, you can draw a smiley face to present a mobile agent that will be moving around the network. It is really amazing if you made this smiley face goes around the servers you added in the slide.
